Extension of the Infant and Primary school “La Católica”

Architects: Gabriel Verd
Year: 2018 (Competition)

The plot is 14 489 m2, organised on three different height levels, descending to the bed of the Iro river. The highest platform hosts the principal building. Its two polygonal floors are designated as the Infant and Primary school classrooms. On the intermediate platform, there is a three-floor building, named “el Palomar”, for Primary school classrooms, the courtyard and sports tracks. The lowest platform houses locker rooms, two sport tracks in artificial grass and a courtyard.

Although the centre plot is on three height levels, the area assigned to the project is plane. Views from the complex are not a negligible aspect of our proposal. The height difference between the first stage and the area for the new building, in addition to the walls of the locker rooms, enclose the ground floor we planned. To avoid this sense of narrowness and not to obstacle the exterior view of the classrooms, we arrange an elevation of the ground level of the building. This solution also let us gain a covered space to use in bad weather condition.
